Here are our top summer tours for bikers in the Eggen Valley!
Through the Rosengarten massif and the world of King LaurinA trip through the Rosengarten can be done not only on foot, but also by bike! Starting from the Planggnbrücke car park in Welschnofen, this 3-hour, 24-kilometre route runs over the Niger and Karer passes through the Rosengarten massif. Following a fairly hard climb up to the Niger Pass, the way to the Karer Pass is not quite so challenging – and the magnificent Dolomites of the Eggen Valley make for a fine distraction. And, in the evening, cyclists can admire the legendary alpenglow! A tour of medium difficulty for active explorers of the natural surroundings.
The Eggen Valley observatory round: reaching for the stars! The observatory round starts in Steinegg, leads from there to the Kaserer Bild and then via Tschigg to the observatory. This of course requires a stop, as it is not every day that you get the chance to see such an extraordinary view of the heavens above the Eggen Valley! Then it is back to the Kaserer Bild via Malgaier and Oberwieser and then Hinterölgart to Steinegg. The tour, 24.4 km in three hours without too much effort, is also ideal for a spontaneous ride!
Latemar tour: a must-do on wheels! The circular tour around the Latemar massif is the classic Eggen Valley bike tour. Starting from Welschnofen take the gondola up to the Frommer Alm. From here there are two ways to the Karer Pass: either path 1A through the beautiful mountain pastures, or along the road, which is slightly easier. From the Karer Pass the tour descends into the Fassa Valley and along the River Aviso to the Predazzo Gardonè lift, which in turn takes you up to the Baita Gardonè hut, from where you take the chairlift to the Passo Feudo at 2,200 metres. A fairly difficult downhill follows along path 504 to the Ganischg and Zischg huts. A paved mountain road then leads from the Reiterjoch Pass to Obereggen, and from there back to Welschnofen. The tour is 45.2 km long and involves a total climb of 2,094 metres in a little more than five hours. The Latemar circular tour is thus for more experienced cyclists who possess both the technical skills and the necessary fitness. But the climb is definitely worth the effort, because the views and scenery on this tour will not only remain long in the memory but also in the heart!
Three tours, three levels of difficulty, three unforgettable experiences for cyclists - and that’s not all, of course! The Eggen Valley has plenty of other bike routes that we can tell you about - preferably in person, here at the Hotel Engel in Welschnofen. Come and visit us!
